Ok I came down with junkie boot virus even though I had a anti virus program. It was off. This virus changes the master boot record. I could only get it to work in safe mode. So I installed a small 1.9 gb hd with the same os on it as the master and was able to get the virus cleared up though it cant repair the master boot. The disabled hd is a 19 gb hd. Now I cant get any sound out of the pc. The mother board is a intel 810e/810 chipset with integrated ich ac 97 controller and a optional aureal au8810 pci audio controller. I cant extract these off the disabled hd though I was able to find them her and install them I still cant get sound. How can I fdisk and save the sound infornmation on the disabled hd. Do I just back it up. Ive heard theres a way to fdisk and retain the info. Anyone tell me how I can get the integrated sound card to work. This happend about 2 years ago and I had to take it to the shop and spend 70 bucks for a tune up and driver install after I fdisked and reinstalled. I have a sound blaster card here though theres no slot on the mother board.

Joe,

Download and install the drivers pertaining to your motherboard model on this page. http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/
You have to also make sure the on-board sound is enabled in the BIOS as well.

If you are using Win 9.X, install the INF utility as well. When you select your board, you will see the sound drivers listed too. Let us know if this helps.

If not using the standard vol. ctrl, I found it still be turned down by Windows itself.
