I'm a novice as well and nowhere near as qualified as all the great guys who comment here (with the exception of Sherlock). However let me take a stab, as I had a similar problem in Win.'95. Go to file in Outlook X.Choose the folder option. Create a new folder under 'Deleted messages'(the pop up window will give you a choice). Now place all the messages you want to delete in that folder and delete the folder. This worked for me when someone sent a huge download and I didn't have enough disk space to delete it.(I have a 248mb HD)I had to remove my printer to free up space! So give it try.
