I recently got DSL with Aliant Telecom, and am having trouble connecting my router. I can connect to the internet fine when I just have the modem connected to the computer, but when I run it through the router, it doesn't work. I have a PPPoE connection, and in order to connect to my internet, I have to log in, kind of like dial up, only high speed. Is there anyone that can help me set up my computers with the router? I need the internet on all of them, and don't understand why it won't even work with just one connected. Thanks for any help!

is the router configured for the network? meaning should it have a set ip, and dns numbers. is dhcp on? do your computers have ip address set manually? hope this helps.

With PPPOE you have to transfer your login
information to the router. The router acts
in place of your computer. You may also
have to transfer you MAC of your computers
network card to the router. Read the
installation instructions.

Most likely you need to use DHCP and AUTO IP ASSIGNED checked or enabled for PPPoE
Use the instructions and it is easy to do.
Basically:
3 steps:Connect Router
Configure PCs
Configure Router
Connect Router:
Connect DSL modem properly
Use an ethernet cable connecting the LAN or ETHERNET port of DSL to the WAN on ROUTER
Connect an ETHERNET cable to your PCs ETHERNET ADAPTER (pci card in back of PC)
Connect Power for routerConfigure PCs:
Go to NETWORK CONNECTIONS > LOCAL AREA CONNECTION > PROPERTIES > Select INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) > Select OBTAIN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY
CLICK OK
RESTART PCConfigure Router:
Opemn your Web browser
At the URL address box type: 192.168.1.1/
Press ENTER
User name: leave blank
Password: admin
Select PPPoE as the WAN type
Enter your DSL (dial in) user name
Enter your DSL (dial in) password
Click APPLY
Click CONTINUE
Click STATUS TAB and click CONNECT to start the connection.
Reset DSL modem
Reboot PCThis is for LINKSYS router, but more or less similar for all routers in some way.
