Can't Change Home Page In IE

OS: Windows 98 2nd Ed.
CPU/Ram: Dell Dimension L433c/63.0

I've followed all the usual steps, but can't change the home page in Internet Explorer. I couldn't change it in 5.5, so I upgraded to 6.0.2800.1106 and I still can't change it. Yes, I go to Internet Options, but no matter whether I choose "Use Current", Use Blank", or "Use Default," my old, unwanted home page keeps popping up. And yes, I'm clicking "Apply" and "OK." How can I drive a stake in heart of this unwanted home page (www.assignmenteditor.com)?

Go to regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

And you will see on the right hand side one called start page, change this to www.google.com

reboot and here you are

might also want to run virus scan, advware and also check your msconfig.
