can't boot --> missing operating system.

i can't boot from my Hdd , i get the msg
'missing operating system' i tried do make a new mbr with fdisk /mbr, i did the sys c:\
story.
i even format c: /s 'ed my Hdd
but nothing won't help.
but if i make it 'slave' to another Hdd, i can acces the data normally...
can anybody help me, otherwise i need to buy a new one.....

Never mind; sorry for replying without reading thouroughly -- it's possible you have a boot sector virus and the boot disk you used may also be infected.

remove the partition by opening fdisk remove all the partion the n creat c:\
then format it then reinstall your os

yeah! my next door neighbor did this little number to mine. He SAID he knew what he was doing ( BS!) and oh yes, he could install my CD-ROM and the Sound Card and their Drivers, NO PROBLEM! YEAH RIGHT! What an idiot!!! After switching the sound card around to different ports and plugging things into things , other than the thing they are supposed to be plugged in, because he " just didnt know why the computer was accepting the hardware install", after 6 or 7 trys, MY COMPUTER CRASHED!! And you want to know why? Because the idiot DIDNT INSTALL THE DRIVERS FIRST!!! DUH!!!!! I tried using a quick restore floppy disk to restore it and bring it back up, I thought the most harm it could do, was not work because my system was a windows 95 and the quickrestore floppy disk was a windows 98. FORGET THAT IDEA!!!!

Not only DID it work, IT REFORMATTED AND PARTIONED MY HARD DRIVE!!!! NOW IT SAYS THOSE FAMOUS LAST WORDS:( AND I QUOTE!)
" MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM". Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! Talk about being pissed off! And then the stupid idiot went back to his house, after- he crashed my system, and DID THE SAME THING TO HIS!!! HE DIDNT EVEN OFFER TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE HE DID TO MY COMPUTER! NOW I'M UP YOU-KNOW-WHAT CREEK WITHOUT A PADDLE! I have a 486DX2 made by Creation Computers, anybody ever hear of this Brand name, it was made in 1994- model # 486DX2-50. If anyone can give me any ideas or solutions on how to get this computer up and running again, I would be most grateful. So far, all its saying, when I try to re-boot it is , " missing operating system", and then when i tried a different boot disk, it actually said something different, " I/O error, non-system disk, please replace and strike any key when ready. So I did, and it went back to: " missing operating system". -THANKS-
