I have to use a boot disk and the cd-rom drive to boot up my computer. but the computer doesn't detect the cd-rom drive. the driver disappeared. so now I have to reinstall the driver. but heres the problem, I have to install it in DOS mode. But the driver will only install in windows. how can i install my driver in DOS mode, is there a way to do this?

I don't have win98, i have win 95. anyways, i lost my cd-rom driver. it use to be drive e:\ but now drive e doesn't exist. help!

Obtain the file ATAPI.SYS. Put it on your floppy boot disk with MSCDEX.exe. Add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS on the boot disk:
device=A:\ATAPI.SYS
Add the following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT:
MSCDEX.exe /D:IDECD001
The D: in the above line being the letter you want the CDROM to use. You now have an ATAPI boot disk. It will boot any CDROM that adheres to the ATAPI standard, which should be all CDROMs these days.

Go into bios and change your boot sequence to boot up in drive C. You may have to run a detection in standard CMOS setup, if you know which IDE port you CDrom uses and whether its a master or slave, you need to set it up as such, or you can just set all drives to "auto" and that should detect your CDrom drive on reboot. If your drive is not an IDE Atapi compatable drive, then you will have to find a specific DOS driver to make it work. You can obtain a Windows 98 Boot Disk here: http://www.driverguide.com/cgi/dnldpage.pl?URL=http://www2.driverguide.com/uploads/uploads6/8649.html&MANU=Microsoft&CAT=CDrom_Drives&MODEL=&OS=DOS Or if these suggestions do not work, I have a universal CDrom driver program that will probably work for you and I will email it to you if you need it. Good Luck.
