This is more information about my problem.
So to re-cap had new hard drive put in, now C,D
the existing drive is now E,F.

I can't open E, it has very valuable
information on, the only way of accessing
it is format it, but then it means I've
lost of information. When it asks me
to change to FAT should I?

Well anyway here's some more information
I used partition magic to look at the partitions, there was C and E.
E had unformatted next to it. I thought
it might have been hidden so I tried to
hide it and then unhide it but it didn't
make a difference.

Is there any chance I can get the information
back from e, in dos I cannot
access it.

In system performance it says it's
using a MS-DOS compatibility file system.

Any ideas?

Christine

The master HD (1st)should be C: and E:
The slave HD (2nd)should be D: and F:
If E: isn't formatted, you can't read it, use it or put info on it, it esentially isn't there as far as the pc is concerned.
If the drive that E is on used to be the only drive in the pc, and it worked before, try hooking it up alone, set to Master and see if you can access the info on it.
If you can't access it or see info on it, or it still says unformatted, or invalid disc or unreadable, etc. I think the E was fdisked and not formatted after that.
If you can access the info, hook up the other HD as slave and copy the info to the slave drive's second partition, but I think that by now you might have lost it.
If the info is real important, I'd take it to a shop, or find someone that will help you there at your pc, through the forum is hard not being there and seeing what's what.

Your drives are backwards. Change the settings on the harddrives from master to slave and slave to master that will let you boot from your orginal harddrive.
