hello, i formated and reinstalled my os, i went from winxp home to win98se. i have two harddrives. one is for the system, and the other is for data. i formatted and install win98se on the system hd. i didnt touch the second... never have. i cant access it though, the computer keeps telling me to format the 2nd HD. how can i access it without formating it?

restart in dos. then at the c promt, type fdisk.this find all hard drives for you.then restart your compt.

Your second drive was probably partitioned as NTFS. If so, you will need a special program to access it from Dos or Win98.

If your 2nd HD is formatted in NTFS, you will not be able to access the HD under Win98. Use Fdisk to determine if your 2nd HD is a dos partition (fat32). Some third party software can convert it to fat32 if it is a NTFS partition. If there is no data on the 2nd drive that is important, you should be able to use a win98 boot disk and delete the partition and create a new one (fat32). If you have data that needs to be maintained, a third party software can be a great help. Post back if you need more information. Good Luck.
