Canon Scanner...HELP!!

I have a friend who has just bought a scanner for her computer. I don't know much about the details, but I do know it's Windows 98 and the scanner is a Canon. This is the message I'm getting....

Canocraft CS-P 3.8

The parallel port may be used by another application.

Error code 0x00060800

I looked in the device manager and it doesn't show a scanner being installed. Also, I can't change the way it's hooked up. The printer is connected to the scanner, but can't just directly connect them because there are no ports on the back of her computer. When I try to install the device through the control panel, it won't give me the option to choose any other kind but Kodak. I can choose "have disk" but it won't come up with any files in the cd rom.

Please help!

Thank you in advance!

Tracy

Your probably going to have to hook up the scanner directly to the parallel port and make sure the scanner is turned on before you start the computer. I have the same problem with having only 1 port, and any attempts to share it by "piggy backing" have failed. I have to connect each one by itself in order to work. The printer can be connected at any time and is usable right away, whereas the scanner must be connected and turned on before the computer. It must be some sort of plug and play process. The newer USB ports don't seem to have this problem. So, unless your willing to spend money to add another parallel port(if the motherboard will support it), your most likely going to have to live with disconnecting the printer each time you want to use the scanner.

A second parallel port card for the printer will fix it up nicely.
Only about $10 - worth the money.
Leave the scanner on the onboard port.

In the CMOS setup change the parallel port setting to EPP and with a little luck your scanner will work OK.

I recently updated my printer driver and started getting Error Code 0x00060800, I ended up deleting the latest driver and reinstalled the old one now works ok.

Yes I'm getting same error code 0x00060800 if I try to use scanner after using printer. Scanner works ok if I use it 1st in each windows session, until I use the printer...This leads me to believe that somehow the printer is not releasing the parallel port after use. I've tried various port/print spooler settings to no avail..
WinXP, BJC4100, FB330P...2nd parallel port is looking to be the answer at this stage.
