Has anyone had problems with a canon printer and a diffrent brand scanner working together?I have the BJC 1000 and a Umax Astra 1220P scanner and cant get the computer to see the scanner at all,(Ive been trying to get this to work on and off for about a year.I bought a new Bi directional cable but still no luck. What am I doing wrong?I set my mothers up for her and it works fine so I should be able to do this but so far no luck. Thanks for any help you can offer everyone,

Sometimes, you will never get two devices to share a port.
The easiest option is to get a PCI card with another printer port on it.
It will set up as LPT2, and you can have the scanner on LPT1 and the printer on LPT2.
Then there will be no conflict.

Krystyna has the best answer. I have had to do this more times than I care to count.
But you could have another problem. I have had another run-in with the Umax. Seems they don't like Via chips. The Via chips are either north or south bridge chips on the motherboard. Not all have them, but if yours does you should read your literiture that came with the scanner. It will probably tell you what I am telling you. Via does not like USB scanners. Don't know if this will help you or not.
