cannot save passwords in pswrd list

When I log on to some websites I want windows to save my password so I don't need to retype everytime.
From IE, when I go to these sites, the windows' password box opens "enter network password" in which I type in the user name and password...click OK and I'm in. At the bottom of this box, it has a click box to save this password in my password list.
When I click it....I still have to re-enter the info everytime I come back to the web site. It doesn't save it...
My computer used to save these passwords when promted....but not now...and I need help to change it.
