Hi Guys, I'm running Win98 on a P166 with 4gig HD. I've tried everything, have checked lots of similar win.com probs but can't find a solution. I was updating from the windows site and didn't restart between updates and have found this problem. Have copied win.cnf file to c:\windows but can't rename it. I can see it listed in the windows directory but when I try to rename win.cnf to win.com, I get "invalid parameter - c:\windows\win.com" i'm using the command ren c:\windows\win.cnf c:\windows\win.com Any ideas. I saw in one post that the guy used the win95 sys c: to solve his prob but it didn't do anything for me. The win.com file is 64Kb odd in size, if that's of any use to ye. I'd appreciate any advice available, if I can just rename the file I'm sure I could get into windows to clean this mess up

Sorry lou,
I start into safe mode but get a C: drive prompt after the above error (WIN.COM) displays. The rename didn't work.

Did you type this exactly?
ren c:\windows\win.cnf win.com
That should work if the win.cnf file is in the c:\windows folder.
