When I attempt to copy and paste a file from a CDR to my harddrive, I get a copy error "Cannot read from source file or disk" yet I can perform the copy using another computer. Any insight?

A dirty lens on the light in the CD might cause that. Get one of the CDs with brushes on it used for cleaning and try it.
