How is you Cd connected? usb?
For windows 95 you will need a boot disc with your cd drivers.

Then put cd in drive and run setup!
You should then be ok.

Hi Vegemite,
Windows95 bootdisks usually don't know how to cope with CDs.
Create a Windows98 bootdisk and use it with Ws95, it will give you the possibility to access the CD and install Windows 95.
Create the bootdisk:
- with the help of a friend with a Windows98 system
or
- download the needed bootdisk from Terri's PC SupportStart the computer with the bootdisk in the floppy drive and follow instructions...
Good luck!
Enjoy your day,
Gérard from Paris, France

Many thanks for your replies.
I am so frustrated so I forgot to include that I have tried rebooting using the startup disks for both win95 and win98 without success.
The problem I have is that my laptop (i.e. P75)does not pick up my external cd player.
The external cd player is an LG 48x.
I have a licensed win95 but I might try to purchase the win95 floppy version so that I can finally install and use the laptop.
Any comments and suggestions are highly appreciated.

If dos wont recognize the external cdrom, there are options available without buying a new os. The best option imho is to connect the laptop to a desktop. You will need to download laplink3 (Free) and purchase a data cable. (Serial cable available at RadioShack, Paralel cable available online). The transfer is slow but you only have to do it once if you use fdisk on the laptop to create a d: drive then use laplink to copy the win95 folder to the d: drive and install from there. That way you will have the setup files next time you reformat.
Another option is to copy the setup files from the win95 cdrom onto floppies. This is more complicated, but instructions can be found on this site if you do a search.

I agree with bobsmock. The easiest way would be to connect to a PC.
You didn't say how the CD is connected...USB, PCMCIA, parallel??? You would need a very customized bootdisk to access the CD.
If you decide to use laplink, you can get a parallel port crossover cable at WalMart for about $10 US. I understand that Laplink 4 is more "user-friendly" than Laplink 3. You can download it here:
Hope this helps.

Hi
I know this response might be a bit late but it may help! I had the same problem with my Toshiba laptop and an external parallel CD-RW. I found the ONLY boot disk that worked(and I tried every one I could get my hands on!) was the one from this page (copy & paste the link)
http://members.tripod.com/bladewire/cdrom.html
I downloaded it, put my own drivers (for the parallel CD Drive) onto the floppy and it worked first time. Hope this helps.
