Comment:

My PC was orignally an Amitech 900 with Win98. Recently I changed it to a Win XP Pro. Then I wanted to change it back, but I had to order a CD Rom (Win 98 SE) as I did not have the original CD. I was messing about with the PC, (as you do), and during that process I think I managed to delete XP Pro, (when I keyed in fdisk and format etc).
I didn't mind that but I have been trying to to install win 98 for two days now, but keep getting messages on dos such as 'missing operating system'. I think it has about 33% usage, (maybe that means something). Right now I have on hand a Win98SE CD, a Win 98 Recovery CD, a Microsoft Win 98 CD which came with the computer, a start-up and a MS boot disk.
The latest messages are 'invalid media type reading drive c; abort, retry, fail?
Does anyone one know what I could do now to get an OS?

You loss data when FDISK make its job. So, now you need FORMAT the C: drive...
Insert boot disk and type
FORMAT C: /U
to prepare C: to take files on the Win98SE install procedure

If "...invalid media type..." message still appear, go to FDISK and choice the 3 option "Delete partition...", at the next menu, choice the 4 option "Delete Non-Dos partirion"...
After this procedure, you must create C: partition again with first menu on FDISK and activate it as logical drive. Then format it and install Win98SE.
When you make Win-XP installation, maybe the process make C: as NTFS system file unit. So, DOS can't work with it...

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Make sure that your boot disk has CD support.
this will install cd drivers so you can use your cd rom.
