My computer keeps giving me this problem that it cannot find server. I tried a number of settings, but I get the same answer. I would like some suggestions as to how I can correct this problem.
thank you

Are you on a network? or do you mean server when connecting to the net? Try pinging the IP address of the server and see if that is successful.... if your on a network.

Also if this problem is not going away and it is when you are trying to get on the Internet ask tech support for your ISP to walk you through a simple ping. If the ping does not work, then you have a problem with your modem. If you can ping but you are not able to browse in the internet you need to update you antivirus and maybe ask your ISP to walk you through uninstalling and reinstalling you TCP/IP protocols. But yes there is a virus that's sole purpose is to block Internet browsing by corrupting you TCP/IP protocol suite.

thanks all for your help,
Just tried tracert and all requests were timed out, tech support at my isp does not compare to the people at this website, it seems to me they are starting out with not much experience. I have a dial-up at 56k, anymore suggestions will be greatly appreciated,
thank you again for your help

56K...Thats a different beast all together. I was under the impression you were trying to connect to a network. Heres some stuff to try.
1) Plug a phone into the phone cord and wall outlet that your plugging your modem into (this confirms that everything outside of the computer works). Call the number your trying to connect to. Assuming it works, write down the number EXACTLY as you dialed it.
Create a new connection. This time when you enter the number you use to connect to your ISP, leave out the area code and enter the number you wrote down in place of where you WOULD HAVE entered the 7 digit number. This way you don't have to worry about area code properties and all that crap. Try connecting with this new connection.
2) If that doesn't work, try uninstalling your modem. Reboot, and make sure that theres no modem, and then shut down the computer. Install the modem on a different slot. Try connecting with the connection you created in step #1. E-mail me if you run into any problems.
