Cannot find server or DNS Error. I am unable to connect to internet.
I have been able to ping in DOS a couple of ip numbers 216.92.56.121 , 216.92.156.121 but not domain names [www.annedayphotography.com or duxcw.com ]
and I can NOT connect using any browser with the ip address.
I suspected a program error and have reloaded IExplore.exe with no effect.
My PC did not come with a disk to reload the operating system if error occured. The disk that came with it are a quick install that reformates the hard drive and makes a copy of what was on the pc when it came out of the box.in DOS
windows\options\cabs\setup
did not help either, as I tried to reload the OS.It is easy to like someone who likes you back.
The trick is to not hate someone who hates you.

"in DOS
windows\options\cabs\setup
did not help either, as I tried to reload the OS."Sure. But what did it DO?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Just a shot in the dark but do you have a firewall running ?, if so switch it off and try pinging then
If Ping in DOS doesn't work then faffing with Internet Explorer won't make any difference as IE operates at a higher level
To get Ping to work if nothing is apparently wrong you need to reinstall network services (network neighbourhood et al). It is often easier to reinstall the OS

Go to network properties and see if TCP/IP is set up to get DNS servers automatically.
You can see which DNS servers you are configured with by using winipcfg program.
Rule #1 Good computers don't go down.
Rule #2 There is no such thing as a good computer.

I'm currently suffering the same problem, initially suspected corrupted browser but re-install has made no difference.
I'm now wondering if a recent change to my wireless net has altered a setting somewhere unintentionally. I use AOL (yes I know!) and can sign on and access them, get their e-mail etc. but can't get to any websites
