Recently, (2 days ago) I upgraded to windows '98 which I must say has been a real headache. I have two separate hard drives, one IBM 3.2GB and the other a WD-10GB. I used W'95 since its inception and had no problems. Here is what I did and what won't work...

My old W'95 system was on my C Drive (3.2GB) so I backed up my system to the 10GB drive for safe keeping. I formatted and partitioned my 3.2GB drive and installed the full blown Win '98 program on it. After installing it, I noticed that I could not use my old Zip-It program from Vertisoft. Now, I realize that they are no longer around with that software, so I downloaded the trial version of Winzip. The only problem I have now is that the program refuses to expand once the download has been completed. It says "Winzip Self-extractor header corrupt. Possible cause: bad disk or file transfer error." I downloaded the file from several sources with the same result, naming each of the downloads that I performed with sucessive index numbers as; winzip70.exe, winzip701, winzip702... etc...

Has anyone had a similar problem with this particular program or is it just my system?

Please assist...

Thanks, Vic

i FOUND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE "WINZIP SELF-EXTRACTOR HEADER CORRUPT".IT IS THE CIH-CHERNOYBL VIRUS. MY TREND MICRO VIRUS SOFTWARE MUST NOT BE THAT GOOD BECAUSE WHEN I WENT TO SYMANTEC'S SITE AND RAN A VIRUS CHECK FROM THERE, IT FOUND TONS OF INSTANCES OF THE CHERNOYBL VIRUS.

I have the same damn problem!

Two days ago, the 'puter refuses to start up exe files! It says it needs a program called winsvrc.exe, but it can't run .exe files, so I don't know if that'll help!!

Help me!!! if you have this file, please e-mail it or something :O

I jast had to repair a computer with the same problem, turned out to ba a virus,
I got this fix from www.winfiles.com,
downloaded it to a floppy, extracted it,
then ran the kill.com file, now its all woking fine

This patch restores your Windows back to its original condition before you executed the Navidad.exe worm. Only applicable if all your Windows application is "locked" by Winsvrc. Just run the kill.com and your system will back to normal.
