Cannot control master volume

Hi!
Since I changed my soundcard to AWE64 value I cannot control the master recording volume. It appears on the Recording control panel, the volume is in middle position and it's grayed out (I cannot move it). Please, help; the recording volume is too low and I cannot record from line-in and the microphone.
Please, answer me directly to my e-mail as I am not checking for updates here...

when i click on volume in the control panel nothing happens. cannot get any volume at all. can you tell me what to do?

it seems that i have "misplaced" my master volume control. it is nowhere to be found! if you know what to do email me or i.m. me at ditterfreak (aol).
