Have computers on LAN and can see all computers in workgroup on the network but two of the computers cannot find proxy server and cannot connect to the internet.

Have checked IP addresses and gateways etc and all seems fine. What else can I check/try?

Can ping the card - cannot ping the router - request times out.

Hi Jay Kay, hi everybody

"Have checked IP addresses and gateways etc and all seems fine."
Gateways, in one and the same LAN? There should only be one, namely your router it's LAN site IP-address.

"Can ping the card - cannot ping the router - request times out."
Can ping which card, the card installed in the computer(s) having trouble?
Can you ping the other working computers from the two troublesome computers and vice versa?
Are you pinging the LAN (own network) or WAN (internet) IP-address of the router?

What is the LAN site IP-address for the router?
What is the IP-address, subnet mask and Default Gateway of a known working, connecting to the internet, computer?
What are the IP-addresses and subnet mask and Default Gateway of the troublesome computers?

Best Regards and Wishes,

Another thing? Is it a static IP address or is it a Dynamic IP address? If it is a Dynamic IP then it will be detected as a PPPoE connection, but should be auto-dected by even the cheapest of routers on the market. I had to upgrade my router due to this problem.
Another problem could be are all your NIC drivers installed and up to date? Windows always installs the wrong driver for mine and I have to go to device manager and change it.
Next, my understanding of using only ONE IP address is that you are supposed to go into IE/tools/internet options/connections/LAN settings and make sure that NONE of these boxes are checked at all. When any of these are checked the computer will automatically look for an IP and not nessesarily find the one you told it to use. So go in there and try unchecking all those and then reboot.
