Did you try KaZaA lite? I was once using Grokster, then moved up to a "new and improved" version without ever changing any firewall or connexion setting, and i found myself in the same situation you are! Then i tried KaZaA; connected immediately! But KaZaA lite is even lightyears ahead. The latest version can be found on my page, Software section, P2P File Sharing subsection. Have fun! Lightspeed.

u should do 1 thing 1st open kazaa and let it connect but make sure at that time ur disconnected to the internet and let the error come on the web button of kazaa then u connect ur pc to the internet and it might connect kazaa after 10 or 20 sec it worked for me surely it will work for u as well

i installed kazaalite wen i click on its exeor ink file or ay file i get a message that this program has performed an illegal opeartin & will b shut down. also i m not able 2 install getright mayb its a software problem in my pc. wen i install gr 5 it says that the file is damaged due 2 bad sector or a virus i try reinstalling it again & i get the same answer & in kazaalite particularly wen i click on kpp.ink or kpp.exe it says - KPP caused an invalid page fault in module KPP.exe at 0167:00453cc0. I'm still here, was out of the galaxy for the weekend. Since you have Win98, unless you put one on then you don't have a firewall. But it would be a very good idea to do so. Try Kerio. Its free for personal use and easy to use. And because you can browse, you have a good ISP connection. That points to the Kazaa installation. During the installation of Kazaa does it give you the option to choose the type of connection ie. dialup, connect thru network, or maybe the type of modem you're using? It could be looking for a serial modem rather than using your network connection. When you use a LAN to connect, the connection is always established. If you direct connect from computer to cable modem you'd have to reestablish connection each time but the network (at least in the case of DSL) keeps a constant connection. You can test this by connecting the cable modem directly to the modem. I'm not sure but you may have to add PPPoE to use it this way. BTW read here about Kazaa

thx ray but i dunno exactly wat a firewall is. i know its 4 security but i dont hav anything important in my pc like credit card no or anythin i tried sharekazaa it connects but works slow but kazaa doesnt i want kazaa back coz i hadsome unfinished files downloaded from it & yea lot of them thats yi want kazaa back & kazaa doesnt giv the option of the type of connection & i was able2 connect 2 kazaa @ 1st & did it4 a long time conveniently until my graphics card had a problem i got a new1 & had 2 get C formatted .since then i m havin this problem & i dun know wat dsl is & i didnt get ur these paras- It could be looking for a serial modem rather than using your network connection. Lets start over. first uninstall Kazaa from the control panel. download install and run SpyBot AdAware Be careful with both of these routines since they are very proactive and could remove something you need. It's safe to remove tracking cookies, keystroke recorders, and of course viruses, Trogans and worms that other antivirus scanners miss. These will clean up your system. Even after removing Kazaa they will find other stuff it didn't tell you about and is left on your hard disk. You should install Kazaa Lite since it doesn't have the OTHER crapola. If you use the full blown Kazaa install you will notice a slowing of the performance of your computer over a few months and will likely kill your system performance like waiting for the Start meny to pop up for 20 sec or so. This is the direct result of the file sharing that others are pulling off your computer and a sneaky routing that allows another company to use your computer to do distributed processing. Bottom line is your computer is slow because it's doing everyone elses work and not yours. Ok. some definitions. Firewall = a method of blocking access in and out of a computer. Requests for and data are handled by "Ports" which are channels into and out of your computer. They are not physical but logical and range from 0 to 65535. the org IANA Port Assignments sets standard usage for many of these ports so that everybody uses the same convention of port assignment. When you communicate on the internet you're using port 80. A Software firewall examines information coming in and out of all 65536 ports and you set rules for what you want to pass thru. It essentially blocks the rest of the traffic if you want it to. Otherwise someone could use an entrance (Port) into your conputer and load or download stuff. A hardware firewall is a device that connects several computers together in a local network to the internet or other networks. They block access like a firewall because the IP address of the router/switch is different from the computers on your Local Area Network. Incoming stuff is blocked there because it can go no further without the IP address of a computer behind it. IF you connect directly from your computer to your modem you should use a software firewall and Anti virus scanning to protect your computer and others. Sure you don't have anything criticle on your computer but others do. The fact that you use Kazaa means that you probably also have dozens if not hundreds of spyware cookies on your hard drive (well at least before the reformat). These things do a wide range of things like tracking and reporting your internet access and things you do on your computer even when you're not connected to the internet. Big Brother is alive and living inside your computer.

hey man i m sorry 4 the delay my server was down for 3 days & i had gone outa town before that i hope u don think i turned my back on u & returned wen i wanted hep again idid as u told i uninstalled kazaa & downloaded kazaa lite & spybot too but theres a weird thing happening now some of my downloads in kazaa lite r disappearing mostly large files i dunno much coz i toldu i wasnt there & i used it only for 2 days i lost a software of huge size & a video too i searched it in FIND but didnt get it today i downloaded a video &i lost it but i serached for it in FIND & found it in a folder called C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\TG1I3VPP & the file name was changet to WWF%20-%20Diesel%20vs.%20Undertaker%20at%20Wrestlemania%20XII[1] it aws a wwe video actually. it was a simple name actually i mean the original 1 not had % or symbols my default folder is c/my shared folder but couldnt find it there help me lost 2 huge files don wanna loose more!!
