I want to give away my old PC running Win98 and would like to remove my stored passwords. In IE6, when I go to Internet Options>Content>AutoComplete and click Clear Passwords, the PC hangs up indefinitely. How can I clear off my passwords?
DONT DO THAT!!! That only works on windows 95!!! open up the computer and take out the cmos for 10 minutes that will clear them good...

From what I remember, removing the battery (and I assume that's what you mean by CMOS, Mar), will only clear a BIOS password.
Partick, check and see if there are any pwl files. If there are, delete them.
Better yet, if you're giving away the computer, just reformat and reinstall the OS. OR...reformat and let the person who you're giving the machine to install what he/she wants.

G'day Patrick, go to this post 111588 and it tells you the location of the AutoComplete list for passwords and search strings etc..
Delete everything under the CLSID number and it's all gone.
Also delete the SPW key at this location too
Hkey_Current_User .+ Software ..+ Microsoft ...+ Windows ....+ Internet Explorer .....+ IntelliForms ......+ SPW
Also empty your cache folders and delete the index.dat files or just deltree them from Dos and this will cover your tracks a bit too.
But as Jennifer recommends, a clean start [format/reinstall] is the least you can do for somebody.
