HI,
Tufenuf
Thanks for your reply and link. Not being very technically minded i'm afraid i can't get any further than the Dos prompt window after i've typed in the command it keeps replying to many parameters - /u"..\bs2.DLL" and im stuck.
Barbara.

Hello everyone,

Try typing the following:

At the C:\Windows>type cd system press [Enter]

At C:\Windows\System>type
regsvr32 /u c:\windows\bs2.dll

press [Enter]

note the two space, one after 32 and the other after /u.

Type the same thing replacing the bs2.dll with bs3.dll.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hi Barbara, hello everyone

Glad to hear you got rid of the parasite.

The most likely cause for the dial-up starting when Windows loads is a program trying to access the internet. This could be a legitimate program you have installed with an option selected to connect to the internet for an update.

There are several places in which a program can be started at a reboot, and if the program is selected to check for updates it will start the dial-up.

Post back with the contents of the StartUp in msconfig.

Post back with what is in autoexec.bat.

You can view the contents of autoexec.bat by clicking on My Computer.

Click on the C: drive to open it up.

Right click on autoexec.bat and select Edit.

Let us know what is there and in msconfig StartUp.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Barbara, Open IE/Tools/Internet Options/Connections tab and the only item that should be "Allways dial my default connection". If any others are checked uncheck them, click Apply, click OK.

Hello again everyone

Barbara,

Let's temporarily uncheck Script blocking and Spam Butcher.

Restart the computer.

Does the dial-up box still appear?

How about the suggestion by Tufenuf also in response #9? What do you have there?

My best regards and wishes,
Mesich
