ok let me start over here..what are all the steps i should do..from scratch..just so i can see where i messed up to add print from a printer on a network?

First off, you say it's a pingable printer, so I'm assuming it's a standalone printer (printer with it's own Network Card)
I'll further assume that you gave it an IP (that you can ping) and plugged into on your network.
Are those assumptions correct, and is it on an NT network?

Sorry it took so long to get back.
OK what you need to do is to install the printer on the NT server first.
I'm listing all the steps, so don't be offended if I start out with the obvious =)
First, you need to install the printer on the NT server.
Click Start - Settings - Printer -Add New Printer.
Click attached to My Computer. (Yes, I know it's odd, as it's actually in another room, but bear with me!)
Click on ADD PORT, then LOCAL PORT, and as the port name, type in the IP address:name of the printer (for example, if it's in accounting department -192.168.0.99:accounting1)
Click OK and you will see the port created and checked.
Click NEXT, and either choose your printer in the list, or click the HAVE DISK to install your printer, and install as normal. After you install it, you want to right click on it and choose sharing. Give it a share name (accounting1) and click apply then OK.
Once it is installed on your NT server, you can install it at a workstation by going to the printers folder on that workstation, clicking Add Printer, choosing Network Printer" and as the address type (without the quotes) "\\servername\printername"
Or click BROWSE, browse to the NTServer, and click on the share name (accounting1) and install that way.I hope that came out as clearly on paper as it is in my head LOL
Post back if it gives you any issues, and we'll go from there!
