Hi
I have a Motherboard with PhoenixBios 4.0.
I change a hard drive(from a working machine)for the system. (hard dirve is Seagat 1.2GB)
When I tried to install Win98 on it. the Bios sometimes can recognise the hard drive and I can install windows 98. After I installed windows, when I shut down the PC and switch on again, the bios lost the hard drive. the black screen tell me "No operating system presented".
I go back to Bios and change the setting, let the Bios recognise the drive, sometime I can go back to windows, sometime I have to do few times so that I can go back to windows. But each time I switch off the PC, the hard dirve will be lost.
I changed my battery but not working.
Someone can give me some ideas what is wrong.
Thanks.

Not to state the obvious but you need to get your bios to the point where it always sees the hard drive, not just sometimes. It could be that remnants of the previous hard drive are still in bios. I would try clearing cmos by removing the cmos battery and the power supply plug for 30 seconds and then restarting.

If your BIOS has the option, try setting the Hard Disk Pre-Delay up a few seconds.
The HDD may not be spinning up quickly enough for the BIOS.

Try another HD , just to see if it works .
Take the cover off & remove the ribbon from the old & plug it in to the replacement HD .
Grab a spare power plug & connect .
No need to bolt the HD , just leave it loose outside the case .
