Comment: downloaded security updates from Microsoft site, when finished they would not load auto onto the machine. tried this 5 times. Just stops at end of down load. again will not load onto my system.

Reply: (edit)Not an answer to your actual problem, but you could work around this by going to Windows Update Catalog (left of first MS page) and downloading them into a spare folder as complete files. You then double click the saved .exe's to install the Updates. When you go back to Windows Updates they will no longer be offered. You would need to first take the number/details of the Updates you want before selecting W98 etc. This method is handy because you can burn the update files onto a CD. DerekW

Reply: (edit)Beginner1 I can't see why HD size or processor type should have any bearing on this problem. Maybe you can explain your reasoning. I suppose there is a vague chance of an anti-spyware program blocking Updates but it would have to be setup really badly. DerekW

Reply: (edit)Try them one at a time which is far safer for your Windows installation in the first place. What does Windows\Windows Update.log say is the error? We only need the last 5 lines - don't post all of it. http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
