I can not boot up computer windows 98SE Screen reads does not detect hard drive?

Did you check the cables? Can you see the drive in the BIOS?

As mentioned, if the cables are good, and you can feel hard drive spin up then, it may be the hard drive has pooped out. I have seen a bad one register in good via P.O.S.T. but never got it to go any further. (Now sitting in bottom of the closet with a note)
