Can I play AVI on my DVD Player?

Is there anyway I can view AVI on my current DVD player? Are there any DVD's that do this?
How can I convert a AVI without it taking 5 hours? Also I only have a CD writer is there anyway I can do it on that?

You can use Nero to make a Mini DVD (on a CD) and convert the AVI to DVD (mpeg2).
No you can't view avi on DVD player because AVI is a general file type that can contain a video with almost any codecs... including divx codec.
And yes, it's normal to take several hours, and that's on a P4, and you've got a P3... so be patient.

Burn the CD as SVCD and it will play on a DVD player capable of playing SVCD. My cheap DVD player plays them just fine. They are not high quaility though.
