what exactly do you mean by making the primary slave the primary? what devices do you have on your IDE cables?
normally your harddrive is you primary master, i don't know why you would want to change this as it will slow the access to the hard drive down, however you can achieve this by changing the jumper settings on the back of the drives, there is normally some sort of key on the back of the device to tell you the settings!

Yes you can do it by changing the jumpers on each hard drive. Current master will change to slave position Current slave will change to master position
Then change the connectors for the IDE cable Swap the end connector to the other hard drive, and middle connector to where the end connector was.
Then run FDISK and make sure new C: drive is set to ACTIVE partition, so that you can boot from new master drive
And, do you plan to reinstall Windows on new master drive....or what did you want to happen ?

Sorry to just jump in like this but,
"Then change the connectors for the IDE cable Swap the end connector to the other hard drive, and middle connector to where the end connector was."
Why the above step? Am I missing something?

I've never known swapping the drive order on the cable to help, but occasional references on this site claim otherwise. It could be that 80-wire cables and motherboards that support them might be more fussy about drive order.

Hi Dan and DAVEINCAPS If you have 40 wire cable, then connector position doesn't matter... but if you have 80 wire cable, then the connectors are supposed to be End = Master Middle = Slave Not knowing what hardware is involved, suggesting to swap the connectors covers both kinds of cable. Krystyna
