This is not a life or death question therefore any input is greatly appreciated. Ahem; Is it possible to change the 'MY Computer' icon without going into the registry? I tried right clicking on properties and saw no 'Change icon' button, sooo.. any ideas? ;)

Yes it is possible to change it. You were very close in your guess as to where to start. Right click on the desktop itself. Now go to properties. now go to effects. From here you can change all your main computer icons.

I should of considered that possibility. Yes, that is an option only availible with windows 95. Maybe someone else here knows how to edit the registry to get it to do what you want it to do, but I try not to mess with the registry stuff. Sorry.

G'day Cyndi, yes it's fairly easy, You can do several things here , you can get TweakUI or Microangelo98 or some other icon editor and you can change all system icons [well most anyway] or if you are Registry-wise you can change the DefaultIcon key path for MY Computer in there. Just type in My Computer in the Regedit's find box and it should take you to it, select the DefaultIcon key, select the default value string in right pain by right-clicking it and choose modify and change the path in the box that comes up and the change should almost take effect as soon as you close Regedit [hit the F5 key to refresh he Desktop]. Make sure you have an icon to change first, that would help.
