I am considering cable modem internet service. Looking for opinions on it.

once you have been there, you wont understand how you lived without it, if you do go with cable get a firewall, you will be constantly connected to the internet and are much more open to hackers a good one is zone alarm and its free

I highly recommend it, there is a night and day difference between basic dialup and a cable modem. Early on there was a slight trouble with the mail, but that has gone away. And once it went out because the wind loosened the connection somewhere. But otherwise no negatives. So if you can afford it the only question really is to go with high speed digital phone line connection or cable modem.

I would agree with both of the above posts. Go with cable. Really great if you want to turn your machine into a server for web pages, chat rooms, email or any other online use. Also great for general home use, especially if you have more than one computer that can be networked in a house. Everyone can share one connection, and be online at once.
