After installing the Plextor PX-W8432T windows 98 found and set up the cd-r (as a cd-rom) with no problem. It works perfectly as a cd-rom but no burning software I have tried, including the Plextor Manager 2000, will initiate it to burn a disc. I have the Plextor attached to the end connection of the secondary IDE ribbon and there is no other cd-rom installed. The cd-r is listed in the device manager under CDROM and under Secondary IDE Controller in "View devices by connection". I'm running a Pentium 233 with 64 mb ram. I'm thinking that this must be a driver issue. Any help would be appreciated.

which burning software? Try going to the webpage of the software manufacturer and dloading the latest updated.

had a similar problem on a pc I was repairing
had to set the cd-rw up as slave on the harddrive ribbon cable.

I guess I left out a few facts in my original post. The burning software I am using is the latest version of Plextor Manager 2000 which is produced by the same company that makes the cd-r drive. I also have the latest version of their firmware installed. Plextor claims that there are no drivers required for the PX-W8432T other than the generic windows cdrom drivers nor are there any on their site for this device. I have read where it is not a good idea to install a cd-r on the same ribbon as the hard drive but at this point I'm willing to try anything.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my post.
