am trying to setup my machine to access a network share from DOS so that I can perform a Ghost of my hard drive.

I am using MSDos 6.22 and my TCP/IP stack is setup correctly, because I can ping the machine from another machine on the network.

When I type the net logon command it tells me that the workstation service has not been started and asks me to start it. When I respond I get the following error message:

Error 36: The system has detected an overflow in the sharing buffer.

Which tcp/ip "stack" are you using in MS-DOS 6.22?? A version of MS Network Client??.

Rule #1 Good computers don't go down.
Rule #2 There is no such thing as a good computer.

If your goal is to ghost your hard drive there are easier ways to do it. Open your computer, attach the drive you want to ghost to and then use the HD manufacturer's utility or other software to do the cloning.

I really don't know much about networking especially with dos. With dos I'm limited to its interlnk and intersrv commands and I don't think that's the method you're using.

My only suggestion would be you may need to modify config.sys and autoexec.bat on the dos computer.

Lastdrive=z

Shell=c: \command.com /p /e:1024

Devicehigh=c:\dos\ifshlp.sys

and my autoexec.bat file is
.............................

@echo off

Usually the emm386 line comes right after the himem.sys line and before the dos=umb,high line. But I don't know if it's absolutely necessary.

Also I imagine you should have a higher number in the 'buffers='. I don't know what would be ideal for your situation but you could experiment with various values. Start at 20 or 30. You may need a higher 'files=' also.

I'm not sure what the various commands in autoexec.bat are but I don't see anything that needs to be changed.

Dos has the memmaker command that will configure those files for better memory usage. You might run that and then check the buffers and files lines after that.

I can't think of anything else. As I mentioned above I'm not well versed in networking. Hopefully others will post in with suggestions. You may want to repost in a few days. You can try the dos forum also.

The NET command doesn't sound like it's finding your PROTOCOL.INI or it may have a bad line in PROTOCOL.INI. Try to use NET START from the directory that PROTOCOL.INI resides in.
