I have fought this battle for 3 days. My browsers (IE6 & Netscape) either won't load, or go through a series of gyrations to a site called incredifind.com. I also fought the battle with Wupdater.exe, and had to go through MS-Dos steps to remove it. I have run CWShredder, Spybot, Ad-aware, Registry Mechanic, and Trend-Micro PC-Cillin. I have no problem with my laptop, just the desktop computer. Any suggestions.

Thanks,
John S. Bowie

Hello JS,
This problem occurs when sometimes for any reason your browser is corrupted or damaged.
I don't have any information for Nescape, but for Internet Explorer, you have a way to correct it using option "Repair".
When not connected into Internet, go to your control panel, program "add & remove program", find line "internet explorer and his tools" run it, 3 options avalaibles, one is "repair", send it, IE will check itself for damaged or corrupted files and correct it. You will need to reboot your computer at the end of procedure......

Be sure to change your homepage via the Internet Options control panel applet, as well as change it manually through netscape.

Check your system for any strange processes running in the background. You may have some malware running that the adbot-destroyers are not familiar with.

Go through the IE Repair feature like the other guy suggested.

If all else fails, and after everything, you still have problems with your browsers, completely unistall Netscape and IE (IE can be uninstalled by following the instructions on THIS PAGE). Then, make sure your system is not running any adware/malware/spyware/trojans/viruses and reinstall your browsers. IE can be reinstalled by windowsupdate.microsoft.com, Netscape you can download and reinstall.

Sharkbones.com has great T-Shirts.
DML Computers has great computer deals.

JS.

I had this very same thing that I started working on Friday and completed on Sunday. I went every where finding every tidbit about this. What I finally found was really crazy but it worked.
You'll see how you should rename and extract files etc. Here's the thing that finally worked.

Win 98SE IE 5.5, 6 and 6 SP1
I rebooted in Safe mode command prompt only. Typed edit shdoclc.dll at the command prompt. The information I found said to search for the first 28.5 and change it to 38.5. I never found anything. I found only the references to 128Bit etc. I searched twice, once for the 28.5 and the second for just 28. When I got done I closed the file without saving it. You have to reboot and when it came back IE 6 SP1 was online at start up, and messenger was working again.

I had tried to download and install Opera as a fix but ended up getting a http:\portal\opera and a network problem message.

I had reloaded all of the IE's and Win98 SE on top of the current without any format or chages etc. I looked for the host file nothing, I searched through the registry. I did find references and deleted them but still nothing that worked. I was running adaware and installed a new full version virus software called virobot. I found a few things after the inital cleanup for adaware and nothing for the virus program.

Hope this helps. I've done hundreds of small SOHO office networks and have come across some interesting situations that drive SOHO owners nuts. If you would like some other tips and tricks email
me. I working on getting a site and information for SOHO computer issues.

I also had the problem of my homepage being redirected to incredifind - but just getting hung up. I followed Imp's suggestion and went to the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. I didn't have the exact "internet explorer and his tools" program, so I was afraid to remove Internet Explorer Q828750 that I did have. I did look at all the programs installed and found one ShopathomeAgent. I removed that one, and now my IE works fine. Maybe I just got lucky!!
