I'm running windows 98 and for some strange reason my browser settings are not letting my URL go to anything else. When I go to Yahoo mail a message displays before Yahoo mail opens, saying your browser settings prohibit you from changing URL. For some reason I can't delete any of my mail I can't compose or spam anything, can't even print anything off of the internet. What I've done to try and solve this is. I've ran AVG antivirus > found nothing, ran Spybot S&D . found nothing, reinstalled Windows, put my settings on default, that didn't work, changed my browser settings, Java settings.
Changed my Cache. I don't think my browser is hijacked, cause I still have access to everything else, my home page and startup page are still set where I have them. One more thing, when I go to some web sites like windows update it doesn't display anything but a white screen. Let me know if you have any answers.

You could try to repair Internet Explorer through add/remove programs.

Spyware has invaded your computer and has hijacked your browser.

You need to run Hijackthis in safe mode after you have unpluggped your computer from the Internet then close all browsers and windows explorer windos. Use this link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

You will need Winzip to open this software. Scan your system and it will show you a list of operations/commands that execute and are associated with your browser. BE CAREFUL not to delete them all as hijack can't determine which ones are needed. Some will be obvious. (Once they are deleted, they will be stored in the back up folder under the config button so they are recoverable.) Save your list and show it to an expert. (I'm not an expert but I figured it out on my own. When I was wrong I restored some files and deleted others until I had the right combo.) Once you have deleted these files (while still in safe mode) run spybot s&d. This will eliminate all the leftover intruders. This worked for me last night. You should also get spyblaster which will block all those bad internet addresses.
