i uninstalled ACDsee a long time ago, and I thought I got rid of it after uninstalling and deleting its registry keys, but still when I right click on a file it still comes up "Browse with ACDsee" (the menu with open, print, scan with Norton Antivirus, properties, etc) . how can i get rid of it?

There is a registry key for that. I don't remember off the top of my head what it is. You'll have to search the Registry again.

Try holding the shift key and right clicking on that file.
You should get an "OPEN WITH" choice. Choose the one you want for that file.

Search your registry for the keys "ACDBrowse".
There may be several similar to this one:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\ACDBrowse

Sorry to be the bearer of rotten news but you'll have fun trying to get rid of this. I have it and I've given up. It's the nastiest thing I've ever seen, it takes over everything!!! Just for fun read my post, 109899, you'll see the nightmare it is. My computer has to go in soon to have something installed, I'm planning on asking them to have a go at getting it all out.

Seriously. I went into the registry, deleted the keys and they just regenerated and now I have TWO keys on there. Print with ACDsee and View with ACDsee. Grr. I'm going on the net to see if I can find a program to remove the little ****.

If that program is that bad, I would start with a search of key phrases (like):
ACDseeIn FIND where it says "named" enter: *.*
Then where it says "containing text" enter:
ACDsee
Where it says "look in" enter: MAIN (C:)
assuming that is your main hard drive.Upper case or lower case doesn't matter, but be sure it is not a phrase you made up - be sure it is one that they actually use. Another thing to search for is the Software Company name and/or author.
You probably know USER.DAT and SYSTEM.DAT are
your registry - don't delete those. But other files that you find containing suspicious phrases, move them to a folder for safe keeping. Then in a couple of weeks, if everything works correctly, delete them. If not, you may have to move some file back. So take notes exactly what folder you got files from. And once you have moved files for safe keeping, go back into the registry and search for the same kind of phrases, using the FIND in REGEDIT. If you feel safe deleting from the registry, ok. But you could export the keys to the same folder you are storing the files in. And then delete. All the "usual warnings", don't mess with the registry if you are not sure.
Hope this helps. Originally I thought you only had bad file association. Didn't realize it was this big a problem.
