Hi
There is a possibility that there is a virus / worm. The network topology used by cable internet access providers splits their network up into nodes similiar to segments on a LAN. Chances are what you are seeing is network traffic primarily on your node. Your cable modem will drop any packets not intended for it.

not a virus more than likely...when you shut your pc down, your cable modem is still running...you have to shut the cable modem off if you want it to stop running and receiving...this is partly so other pc's that may be connected can still get online...and partly because the modem has a seperate power source and therefore needs turned off seperately:)

I have two blinking lights on my cable modem. If I shut down all three of my connected machines one light goes out cause there is no connection.
If you are concerned something or someone is trying to access your pc, pull the plug after you shut down.
Checking with your cable company should let you know if this is normal or not.
