hi im asking this for a collegue of mine.
he is thinking about getting broadband at home, for his own personnel use on his PC.
the only thing is right, he has to work from home most of the time, and he has been given a laptop to work on by the company. he uses this laptop to work on, and also check his work emails, and also to use a program called PC Anywhere so he can connect to the server here.
he has 2 seperate lines at home now, one for his house fone, and one for his modem in his personnel computer.
the problem he is asking me to find out is....will he be able to get broadband on his personnel computer, but yet still access the internet on this laptop to check his emails and log on to the server here?!?! thats the question?
Thanks for any help in advance
Graeme

Yes. He can use a Broadband Router which will enable the hookup of multiple computers to the same broadband connection, or use the home pc as the internet gateway by installing an additional NIC. You could also still use a modem, but that would defeat the purpose of having broadband. There may be a few other configurations depending on the type of broadband chosen. Good Luck.

if u want brodband u will need a nic in every computer that u plan to have using the broadband. U can still use a modem but y would u want to because a modem is slower and the connection isnt as reliable.

I have a laptop with USB adaptor on my Broadband Router as well as 2 computers with NIC Network Cards.
I have one account with Freeserve that I still use, and have to access FTP via Dailup which is no problem as both work at the same time! so I log in, upload and log out as soon as possible.

I do the same. Cable for internet access and NetZero for quickies on the road and fax on all the machines.

how much do these broadband routers cost?? roughtly?? and are they easy to install?
Graeme
Ps...thanks for all the help every1
