The system is connected to the internet via a Linksys LNE100TX EtherFast 10/100 LAN card connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router to a Westell DSL modem from Bellsouth. The router was configured by Bellsouth as PPPoE. The browsers are IE6 and Netscape 7.1. There is another computer connected to the router and it is operating OK, able to access all internet sites via both of its browsers, also IE6 and Netscape 7.1. It is running WIN2000.
When I click on a web site icon such as Google (either browser) there is a very long wait and no connection. IE6 says the page is not available and Netscape just times out. The site address does not appear in the address bar. Then when I click the upper right corner X to clear back to the desktop, the hourglass/arrow cursor takes over 20 seconds to change back to just an arrow. This behavior prevents me from accessing my email or to go on the internet.
To write this I am using the WIN2000 computer which is also connected to the browser.
I have other programs on the WIN98SE computer which do not use the browser to go on line. Such as Norton Update, Options Express, ID Serve, and OmniData. They operate OK so it appears the modem and router are OK.
I have run Spybot S&D, AdaWare, and Norton AV. No viruses or other bugs detected. I have dumped all the TEMP files also.
As last resort I am contemplating reinstalling WIN98SE. Before doing that I would appreciate your comments.
Thanks, Bocaman

Can you ping the Linksys router? did you set the computer networking to DHCP since the rouetr will automatically assing the IP adrress, if you run winipcfg and the IP address is showing 169.xxx.x.x then your networking is not working or set up properly, the IP should show something like 192.168.x.x

Reply to budm,
I can ping the router from DOS at 192.168.1.1.
Running winipcfg gives:
PPP Adapter Address 44-45-53-54-00
IP 0.0.0.0
Linksys LNE 100TXv5 Fast Ethernet
Adapter address 00-0c41-22-7B-E9
This computer is on the same router and is accessing the internet (here) using its Netscape browser.=, so the router must be set up OK.WCK

IP 0.0.0.0 is not right, should be 192.168.1.x for the NIC card in your computer. What is the win2k machine IP address? The router is OK, you should also rty winipcfg_/renew, or release all and see what happen.

The router configuration shows my user name and password (as asterisks)
MTU enabled, Size 1402
Router IP:
Local IP address 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255
Local DHCP Server enabled
Start IP address 192.168.1.100
Number of addresses 50
Address Range 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.149Does this look OK?
