My PC was in screen saver mode the morning of 6/15. At noon it had attempted to reboot itself. It will now not boot even in safe mode. Single-stepping I find it freezes at vswp.vxd. My machine is an ibm pentium II, win 98. I wonder if the sound card died? Another link to an ibm response said to remove the reference to the yamaha drivers in the system.ini file, but after doing that, I get a windows protection error.
I believe that I would try booting up to Dos and type: scanreg /restore Restore your Registry to a date before 6/15. You will have to reinstall any programs that were installed after that date.
