Hi | The quote below is from a Microsoft Knowledge base | article (289022) which pertaines to modifiying the | subject. Correct me if I'm wrong but I get the feeling | that ever though they suggest that one could use | the "statup and recovery" dialog to modify the subject, | it would probably be better to use the "comand line | utility, Bootcfg.exe". If I'm correct in my assumption | could anybody explain why this so? Again I'm new. | "While you can modify the Boot.ini file using the Startup | and Recovery dialog, where you can select the default | operating system, change the timeout value, or manually | edit the file, the following method uses the command line | utility, Bootcfg.exe". | Thanks | PS If one should be so unfortunet as to need the backup | copy of Boot.ini how would one retrieve it?

Use the Startup and recovery app as the article suggests, especially if you're new as you say. If you wanted to back up your boot.ini, there are a number of ways. You could just copy it and paste it right back on the C: drive. It will be named Copy of boot.ini. Just rename it to boot.old or something to that effect, that way if you mess up the original, just delete it, and rename boot.old to boot.ini. Like I said, I'd use the built in app that Microsoft provides, that's what it's there for. What do you want to change anyway?
