Subject: POST Bootblock bios error

Comment:
Motherboard is a PM 9000 - 133Mhz cpu, with only ram, video card and floppy drive installed.
Error during POST reads:
Award Bootblock Bios V.1.0

BIOS ROM checksum errror

The POST beeps are rapid(same tone) and non stop.

Suspect my Award bios is
hooped. Any suggestions.

Continuous beeps are often a RAM problem.

There is bios info right on this page. Go into the left margin. Click "HOWTOs" and then "Working with Computer Bios"

max, a bios rom error is not caused by bad ram. See the link I gave before.

This is a bootblock virus that overwrites the boot ROM. There's a couple of fixes:

1. Replace the motherboard.
2. Replace the BIOS chip with an exact match
(match the motherboard)
3. If you have a duplicate motherboard, boot up the new one, swap out the BIOS chips while running and flash the infected chip. Then re-swap the bios chips after shutting down.
