Start up in safe mode, your manual will tell you which key to press to get there. You will be greeted by an ugly old screen with huge graphics, running on minimal drivers. Click start,Settings, Active Desktop, customize my desktop, and change the wallpaper to none.

F8 gets you to safe mode no matter what brand PC you use. Right click on your desktop, choose properties, and set wallpaper to none.
