boot sector virus when I try and install

OK, here is the situation.
Just reformatted my HD. I boot my comp with a win98 SE boot disk. I go to install win 98 se from the install CD and once the install program starts going, it comes up with a small error box saying "boot sector: virus continue y/n" I keep trying to make it continue but I think it freezes up.
Shouldn't formatting my HD have wiped all virus' off my comp?

You have a virus in or something is wrong with your master boot record. formatting does not clear the master boot record. at a dosprompt, type fdisk /mbr to fix this.

I wouldn't use the fdisk /mbr yet when a boot sector virus is at play. Will be back with some info

OK, I just tried that.....all that happened is it came up with the same message.
Any other suggestions? Is there a virus program that would help?

Are you sure it's not a warning from the bios as Win98 tries to write info to the boot sector?
You might try going into the bios and making sure the boot sector protection is turned off (if it exists). Can't tell you where to look in the bios setup because I've seen it several places but... I'd try the advanced settings.

There was probably never a virus in your boot sector to begin with. The BIOS protection was warning you that a program was trying to modify the boot sector. Since you were in the process of installing an OS, it was YOU, not a virus that was attempting to make this change. Install your OS and don't worry about it. As a general rule however, you should regularly scan your system for viruses, including the boot sector.

OK, disabling the virus detection worked.
But, the virus is still in my boot sector. How do i get rid of it once windows is installed?

You don't have a virus. As one of the previous posts mentioned, It is the operating system itself that is being detected as a virus by the BIOS.
If you did the fdisk /mbr as suggested, then there is no way you have a bootsector virus as the boot sector would have been wiped clean.
