Comment:

i have 2 hard drives and my BIOS finds both of them, i know that for sure, but when i start the computer it comes up with "Searching Boot Record from IDE-1..Not Found" so i changed it, in the BIOS, to search IDE-2, that worked for a bit, but i couldnt access the other HD from win98, then wen i last turned my computer on, it came up with "Boot Record Not Found" again, it couldnt find IDE-2, now i can only boot it up using a boot disk, but i cant acces the two HD's...

I would appreciate help, because i have work to finnish for the end of the week...

(this letter was obviosly written on another machine...)

Hi there!

Are you sure the two Hds are partitioned properly and formatted ? if not, then do so.

Unfairly i would immediatly say it is the CIH virus only because it is going around. to be safe download the utility KILL_CIH to clean and inoculate your system (actually it will only temporaraly disable the virus). check out the others that have question on the CIH virus down below on the list. Read the problems and see if it is close to yours.

Simply enough, the primary master should be IDE0, IDE1 would be your primary slave. Check you HDD jumpers.

I have been getting the same message, and I know it is not a virus. because it does fine on my old system!

I also get DISK I/O ERROR as:

I installed a new Motherboard and CPU upgrade as follows:

I had an existing 486-66 with 1.2 GB hard drive using WIN95 (also have a
3.5" 1.44 MB floppy) and replaced the MB & CPU along with the same hard
drive - the new MB is an AMPRO P3747 with 32 MB of PC100 sdram
and a Celeron 400 CPU.

I am able to boot OK and get into the set-up, however, it would not boot
to the Hard drive I had been using, so I reinstalled WIN95 (IN the new
system!!) and everyting went fine.

But still when I try to boot I get the message: "Disk I/O Error, replace
and press any key."

I can see the HDD in my set up and it will autorecognize etc.

I tried truning S.M.A.R.T. drive on and off in the set-up, no help.

I tried using FDISK to check on the active partition and it seems to all
be set just fine!

Any ideas how to get this baby to boot into its WIN95??

If you are able to help me it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - Brian
