Hi,
I just reformatted a friends computer, but afterwards I noticed that it says:
boot record for cd-rom not found
boot record for floppy not found
Both drives are listed in my computer, and both work, although there may be problems with the cd-rom (loads very slow).
I did a search and tried the fdisk/mbr, but that didn't do anything.
When I put the restore disk back in (emachine 466id) and reboot, then it says ok after cd-rom. As soon as I take the restore disk out, it goes back to "not found".
I sure hope someone can help me figure this out, I'm stumped. Thanks in advance,
Terri

This is not a problem.
You have the pc set up to boot from CD first, then Floopy, and lastly from hard drive.
This is a setting in the bios.
So when you boot, the pc checks these drives for a bootable disc. If it doesn't find one you get the message saying boot record not found. If you change the bios so it boot from the hard drive first you wont get this message but you also wont be able to boot from cd or floppy as the pc will find the boot record on your hard drive first.

The problem does not seem to be the result of REFORMAT.
What was the symptom you were trying to treat with Reformat?
It looks like the error is coming from the BIOS and I would suggest to REST CMOS jumper or if the Battery is weak Change it.

Hi, thanks for responding.
So, If I understand correctly, this is normal, and nothing to worry about. That would explain why it says "ok" when I boot from the cd rom. Thanks for the help!Terri
