I had to change my harddisk when it crashed. now that I have changed it, and loaded windows on it, when I start the computer, it still goes to the DOS mode (ie C Prompt) and then from there, I have to start the windows manually. What could be wrong with this ?

If you have Tweakui go to the Boot tab and select start GUI automatically. It will modify msdos.sys so windows will start.

Or at the dos prompt type:
edit c:\msdos.sys
and return. When it opens, scroll down to
BootGUI=0
and change it to
BootGUI=1
Then save and exit. If it's already set to 1 the problem is elsewhere.

add 'win' at the end of your autoexec.bat if the above fails. I also believe that having the following line in config.sys will stop windows loading.. SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM C:\ /E:1024 /P /F .. or something similar but you would have had to have put that there in the first place.
