Brett,

Does the hard drive have an operating system on it or is it a new hard drive?

Hi Brett,

As with all irritating problems like this it's a case of running through a checklist of ellimination. First port of call, check hardware including IDE or SCSI cables are secure, check master/slave jumpers on HD and ROM drive. Then is to the BIOS to check HD is recognised correctly and is using appropriate settings.

If all this is fine, remember a new HD will need FDISK and then a full format. The biggest test for a newly built PC is the actual install of an OS. If it can achieve this, its running perfectly.

So do the checks above, ie hardware, BIOS, HD initialization. After this, try an OS installation.

Brett,

Go here and get another boot disk.

BOOTDISK

Download to windows. Select the downloaded file and it will prompt you to insert a blank floppy. It will then exact the files to the floppy.

Try this and post back.

Good Day!

1st Boot Device: Floppy

Still having major problems with this, settings on the bios is the same! when it is doing some checks it comes up with RPL-ROM-FFC: 5 not found , is this anything to do with it?

Brett,

Seeing how you cannot get to any prompts I would clear the cmos using the jumper on the motherboard. Don't forget to put it back to the normal position.

Post back with info on your motherboard and the manufacture of the hard drive also.

I'm not sure but this RPL-ROM-FFC may indicate you have a remote booting network card installed. If you have a network card, unplug it. Its BIOS might be taking over the interupt that should be used by the floppy during the boot process (which would explain why your computer can not use the floppy drive to boot).

Unplug that network card, reboot, let us know.

You could also have a bad Floppy drive or a bad ribbon cable.

Hi brett

if you have built in LAN, the disable option will be in the BIOS settings, if it is to do with the problem you having, its one of those un lucky problems.

good luck in sorting it.

Brett,
I downloaded the manual for your motherboard but it doesn't seem to have much information about the optional network capabilities. I didn't see anything about disabling or enabling network stuff.
But I did read somewhere that the board has the ability to remotely boot off a network so you may be on the right track with this.
I would expect some kind of network settings in the BIOS, too, but don't know how you will be able to find them other than just looking around.
Did you clear the CMOS memory as mesich suggested above? If not, do so and see if that takes care of the problem.
