Hi,
I successfully installed Fedora Linux, afterwards realized i wanted to install W98 first and then install Linux;
did complete partitioning of disk, format c: /s, but my HD will not boot; detected in Bios but not bootable (beep and some strange characters)any ideas please?

With only format c: /s you can access the files you transferred to it from the A:\> prompt but there is yet nothing to boot to.
You can access command.com.Now you need to install Windows.
Otherwise, I do not understand what you mean by unable to boot it. Please explain.
Bryan

What strange characters?
What boot loader are using? Is it LILO?If it is a series of "L"s, "LI"s, "LIL", "LIL?" "LIL-" etc or similar Then it could be a LILO problem.
Look up the boot error codes.
If it is not then gives us more information on the strange characters you are seeing.

Hi
One possibly would be corruption in the MBR (512 bytes) which includes the partition table. The error could be in either the code in the first 446 bytes which [fdisk /mbr] verifies or replaces or the Master partition table where you could use Delpart to wipe the partition table and leave the code.
I would advise wiping the first sector (all of the MBR), if not the whole disk, to prepare it for the new installations. Killdisk would be my recommendation.
