My mother-in-law asked for my help with fixing her system. She tells me that her 12 year old son was messing with the sound settings and she now gets the error message displayed (goes thru the Windows screen just before this)
"Crystalware Audio Initialization Utility
Version 2.720
Crystal Semiconductor Corp.Plug & Play BIOS detected
SBpro: I/O=220, IRQ=5, DMA=1
bad command or file name"Since I wasn't there when he screwed the machine up, I'm not sure what settings he changed. It does boot up fine in Safe Mode.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any replies,
Kristen

If you can boot to safe mode..did you go to control panel and then system to see if there are any conflicts to solve..sbpro made me think of sound blaster(popular sound card)...which makes me think dos game...just assumption..

Well... sure, SBPro is a SoundBlaster
Assumptions notwithstanding, "bad command or filename" is a DOS message, and is likely coming from autoexec.bat, as are the soundblaster settings
You can run msconfig and disable the line or lines, or even disable loading autoexec.bat altogether, as none of that is required for Windows to run
I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter
